About UCL IRDR

The University College London Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction (UCL IRDR) is an acronym for University College London Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction. Over 70 professors from 12 departments and 7 faculties are participating in world-class research and practice at the institution. The institution was founded in 2010 with the goal of leading research, gathering and sharing information, and teaching about risk and catastrophe reduction at UCL. Disaster resilience, migration, humanitarian response, crises, global health, gender responsiveness, and other topics are among the institute’s themes. Students pursuing a master’s degree at the prestigious institute are eligible for the UCL IRDR Masters Scholarship.

Natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, tsunamis, pandemics, climate change, and other natural disasters have caused death and suffering to humanity. The Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction recognizes risk, its sources, and how to improve resilience and decrease these risks via comprehensive research, making it important to mankind. The IRDR aims to link curricula to humanitarian research so that it can influence national and international policymaking. The Department of Earth Sciences accepts students into the institution.

The UCL IRDR Masters Scholarship

Application is going on for the UCL IRDR Masters Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded in four categories for MSc and MRes students in the UCL Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction for the 2020/21 academic year. The scholarship is awarded as a reduction in full-time student fees, and are open to students applying to any of the following programs:

  • MSc in Risk Disaster and Resilience
  • MSc in Risk and Disaster Science
  • MSc in Space Risk and Disaster Reduction
  • MRes in Risk and Disaster Reduction

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants are expected to be academically sound with good grades
  • Applicants are expected to have a level of passion and enthusiasm to study on the IRDR Master’s Program
  • For applicants to be eligible for this scholarship, they need to separately apply for a place on their chosen Masters Program through the UCL application process by 15th April.
  • The scholarship does not cover the entire tuition cost; applicants must have sufficient funds to cover the remaining fees.
  • Applicant must have applied for either of master’s program in IRDR: MSc in Risk Disaster and Resilience, MSc in Risk and Disaster Science, MRes in Risk and Disaster Reduction or MSc in Space Risk and Disaster Reduction.

Eligible Course:  MSc in Risk and Disaster Science, MSc in Space Risk and Disaster Reduction, MRes in Risk and Disaster Reduction and MSc in Risk Disaster and Resilience.

How To Apply For The UCL IRDR Masters Scholarship

  • Applicants must have a place on their chosen master’s program with an application number which should be included in the application.
  • All application should on A4 size pages, with minimum margins of 2cm and written in Arial font size 11, comprising:
  • A one-page CV, containing the candidate’s education and grades, any relevant work experience
  • A one-page personal statement, including a summary of why the candidate thinks he should be considered for the scholarship and how he/she will benefit from the award. The personal statement should also contain how the master degree will be used in the future.
  • The application must have the exact email subject title of “UCL IRDR Masters Scholarship Application”. In the email sent to [email protected]

Note that any sections exceeding the page limits will be discarded, and emails under a different subject line may not be picked up.

Scholarship benefits

£12,500 is awarded to international students towards tuition fees

£5,000 is awarded to domestic students towards tuition fees.

Host Nationality: United Kingdom

The scholarship is open to students from all around the world.

Application deadline – 27th April 2020.  Applicants for this scholarship need to separately apply for a Master’s Program through the UCL application process by 15th April.
